The Best Feeling

Since turning Wyatt's crib into a big boy bedI have been laying down beside him for a few minutes at bedtime. After we read our books, I turn out the light and just lay beside him for a minute or two. I've tried to play with his hair or rub his back, but he would just rather I lay still and silent. Funny huh? Anyway, last night I turned out the lights and went to lay down as usual and he scooched over real close to me for the first time ever. I put my arms around him and we just laid there. I wish it would have been longer, but he eventually felt the need to scooch away. For a while...maybe a minute...that was the best feeling ever!!!

I'm a big kid now!!

I decided it was time to for Wyatt to have a big boy bed...no particular reason, I just felt like he might like it better. Troy is going to build him a bunk bed (eventually), but I wanted him to have one now, so I just took the rails off his crib and added some smaller rails that allow him to get in and out on his own. I also added a baby gate to his doorway to keep him from coming down the stairs in the middle of the night. We don't have room for any extra bed guests and I cringe at the thought of him falling down the stairs. I was surprised at his reaction. He's not usually a big fan of change, but he seemed pretty excited about his big boy bed, and then when I added the baby gate, he was REAL excited. He asked if his room was Wyatt's house. I said yes, knock knock...can I come into Wyatt's house. He thought that was too cool. He took a three hour nap in his new bed, and then slept thru the night. He hasn't slept thru the night in weeks. I don't know if it was the new bed or if I just got lucky. Only time will tell. Now, if we can just get the potty training down. The kid just has no interest. Who cares...he's still the most adorable thing on the planet!!

Off to a good start...

Ah yes...we are off to a good start. I can feel it in my bones that this is going to be a MUCH better year. I've got a new outlook, I ate lots of cabbage and black eyed peas and I have been decluttering like a mad woman. Our only negative is that Wyatt has begun the terrible twos, but they're not that terrible. He used to be so good about holding my hand when walking across the street, and he was always so good in public places, but I have seen a new side of him. He was quite literally bouncing off the walls on our last shopping excursion. You know those parents that look to have completely no control...that was/is me!!! My child was/is posessed, but I still love the tar out of him. We started potty training today at school. I had to pack FIVE pairs of pants, FIVE shirts and FIVE pairs of socks. We aren't using pull-ups, so accidents are inevitable. I didn't have the heart to tell them that they would probably need 10 of everything, but I know they will. We attempted potty training over the holidays, and I gave up after the 14th "accident." I had him sit on the potty for at least 5 minutes knowing that he would have to pee or something based on the timing of the last meal. He told me, "no, mommy I don't have to go potty." I put on his pants and less than a minute later we were changing clothes AGAIN!!! That's when I gave up. My mother-in-law says, "what's the rush? You don't ever see people walking down the aisle in a diaper...they will learn eventually." I must say I have to agree!!! We'll see how it goes...keeping fingers crossed tightly!!

Love,
